Explore downtown Helena! Shops, cafés, breweries, and local boutiques line this historic gold-rush street. It’s perfect for strolling, coffee, and shopping, and is the heart of downtown life.
One of the best parts of Helena is how quickly you can get into nature from downtown. Mount Helena City Park sits right above the city and offers a network of scenic trails that are perfect for a light or moderate hike. All trailheads are just minutes from downtown and easy to access. A popular route is the 1906 Trail, which climbs steadily to the summit of Mount Helena. At the top, you’ll find panoramic views of the city, valley, and surrounding mountains. It’s a classic Helena hike—accessible but rewarding.
Scratchgravel Hills is a more open, rolling trail system located just north of Helena. It’s a favorite among locals for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking, and offers a very different feel from the steeper, more wooded trails of Mount Helena or Mount Ascension. The landscape here is wide and expansive, with grassy hills, big skies, and panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and distant mountain ranges.
The state’s history museum is a must-see while in town. Admission is free, and it’s a great way to learn more about Montana’s history, culture, and people.
Come see where I work and where Mike and I first met! The Capitol building is beautiful inside and out, with impressive architecture, murals, and open public spaces to explore.
