Our Story

The Wedding Website of Rebecca Grathwol and Sean Grathwol
Rebecca was born and raised in West Seneca and completed her undergraduate at Canisius. She has worked in the banking and mortgage industries, and currently works in the fundraising department of the University at Buffalo. Rebecca loves traveling, working out, and eating great food. Sean was born in Albany, and grew up in Syracuse before heading to college at Canisius in Buffalo. While Rebecca was a senior and Sean was a freshman, the two did not cross paths. Sean is a financial manager at Citi where he assists in the financial planning and analysis for their product accounting division. Sean is a CPA and has a master's in forensic accounting. When Sean is not crunching numbers he usually is connecting with others over coffee, cooking, or working out.

The Relationship

It all began at church

Sean and Rebecca went to the same church for many years before getting to know each other. During the midst of COVID restrictions, Rebecca came to one of the church BBQs Sean hosted at his house and slowly but surely their relationship started to bud. Sean took Rebecca on their first date to Sato Ramen during the end of Summer in 2020. The world might have been shut down, but Sean and Rebecca persevered having dates at restaurants when they were open, or having takeout at Sean's house. Some of our fondest memories were being creative during those times, such as going to the movies during the one week they were open in Erie county or driving to another county to go out to eat at a restaurant that had no restrictions.

Engagement

The Rose Gardens at Delaware Park, Buffalo, NY

Over time, Rebecca and Sean's relationship grew and they became very close. The couple weathered many storms, including the passing of Sean's Dad. It was clear they were serious and would be on track to be married in a matter of months. Sean had secretly recruited the help of his Mom to have the family heirloom diamonds be used for the rose gold engagement ring for Rebecca. He also asked for permission from Karen and Alan (Rebecca's mom and dad), and thankfully received a yes! The couple had a trip to Dallas together and Sean had planned to propose in the beautiful city as a surprise. But Rebecca was on to him. So Sean waited until they were back in Buffalo before surprising her and having a friend hide in the bushes to take photos and capture the memory forever.

Wedding

The Westin

After scouting out numerous venues Rebecca and Sean finally came across the Westin. Sean had worked there on a year-long project for the company that occupied the 8th floor and was very familiar with the beautiful, tall and mostly glass building. The couple soon fell in love with the venue's character, delicious restaurant, beautiful courtyard, and ballroom. The hotel was the right fit for the couple to be married in style!
