Travel Note
To renew your passport, follow the instructions within the link. Overall, the process is easy and straightforward if you are renewing and should take about 4-6 weeks to receive the updated passport.
Flight
DMV/NYC/Philly to Rome is approximately a 9 hour direct flight from Dulles International Airport, JFK, and Newark If you are coming from Philadelphia, we recommend going to Newark as the flights are significantly cheaper. We recommend choosing a flight in the evening to arrive in Rome early the following morning. If you plan to enjoy the sights of Rome, this will give you the ability to have a full day in the city. All hotels should accommodate holding your luggage until check-in. If you would like to skip Rome and hop on a train to Puglia or other regions of Italy, there are trains departing all throughout the day. The train station is located in the heart of Rome.
Flight
There are direct flights from Newark to Bari 3-4x per week. This is a good option if you would like to save travel time as coming from Rome would require an additional flight or a 4.5 hour train ride.
Travel Note
Once arriving in Bari, you can either rent a car, take a taxi/uber, or local train to Fasano. The train to Fasano from Bari takes approximately 45 minutes with about 10 stops. Tickets are less than $15. PS. If you would like to explore the rest of Puglia, you can hop on this train to other towns like Poligano a Mare and Monopoli.
Travel Note
Masseria Salamina is located near the town of Fasano in Puglia. It is about a 10 minute drive from the Fasano train station and a 45 minute drive from Bari. There are ubers and taxis available from the airport and train station, while there are ubers, taxis are the preferred method of transportation in the region. We recommend calling and/or scheduling a ride in advance with driving services. How we arrived - we took a local train from Bari to Fasano (approx. 45 min) and then called an uber to get from the train station to the Masseria.
Train
If you would like a cost-friendly option, we recommed taking the high speed train from Rome to Bari. There are trains frequently to this location which takes approximately 4.5 hours to arrive in Bari. Tickets can be purchased for $30-$50 through Omio. This is a great option from Rome if you'd like to see the Italian countryside! Note that seats are reserved in advance, and we suggest to plan a head of time for the most comfort and train time to fit in your schedule.
Travel Note
To get around Puglia, there are limited taxis and Ubers, however, there are independent ride services. If you are staying at a hotel, you can ask your hotel concierge to assist you with rides. When traveling around Puglia, we did not have trouble getting rides. See below for some numbers that you can message to book a ride. These services prefer to schedule in advance.
