They met at CJ’s— the notorious Notre Dame watering hole that serves popcorn after midnight. Jarrett saw Jessica from across the room with her group of friends, and was stunned by her beauty among the drunk undergrads. When she confirmed he too was Roman Catholic shortly after their meeting, the deal was signed for Jessica and the rest is history. He came back two weekends later, for their first date right after Valentine’s. Jessica was still a student at Notre Dame at the time, so Jarrett spent his weekends traversing the Midwest to see her on his time off from Cincinnati.

Jarrett thought he was going to marry Jessica the day they met; when Dr. Harris gave his permission in the Fall of 2019, only then did he know for certain. Jarrett proposed to Jessica outside of the same restaurant they went to for their first date and every anniversary after. The ring that Jarrett gave to Jessica on February 21, 2020 holds the diamond from Jessica’s mother’s wedding ring, and a setting that the two picked out together in their "love story" town of South Bend.
