Funny story here… they actually met on Hinge (yes, the dating app) & neither one of them told their parents (sorry Mom + Dad for keeping this a secret until now...)! But now they’re getting married, so who cares! 2023: Robert (Robbie) was working in Greenville, SC for the summer, while Grace was enrolled in Esthetician school living in Easley, SC. In June, they made their match and started texting to really get to know each other! A couple of weeks later, on July 3, Robbie asked Grace out on a date & the rest was history! At the end of the summer, after only knowing each other for a month, Robbie went back to Virginia Tech (VT) & they continued their relationship through long distance. During these months apart, Grace got started in her Esthetics career & Robbie was working towards his Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering. They were able to navigate visits between Blacksburg, VA and Easley, SC almost every other weekend to see each other. They were able to maintain a healthy relationship deeply rooted in communication & mutual support, all while prioritizing their own futures! In December, they decided that they wanted to take the next step in their relationship… getting a dog together! They added Millie, a rescue Rhodesian Ridgeback, to their little family. She lived with Robbie in VA & would come on all of their weekend visits! 2024: By June, Robbie graduated from VT with his degree & accepted a job in Greenville, SC! They would FINALLY be in the same state & only living 15 minutes from each other! What was once only known as FaceTime calls and countdowns, flourished into downtown date nights, chasing scenic mountain views, and soaking up sunny beach days. Every adventure & memory became a building block for something lasting. Each memory became another building block for their loving relationship. Their love was the kind that only comes from finally being together after so much time apart! 2025: In April, Robbie decided it was time for him to take the next step for their relationship… a really big step! He drove to Grace’s parents’ house to ask them an important question: their blessing for Grace’s hand in marriage. Obviously, her parents were ecstatic for them and happily gave him their blessing! Chris, Robbie’s father, had the honor of passing down an original engagement ring of his late mother, Barbara Grubbs, for his son. This family heirloom carries a special meaning to the Grubbs’ family. He was now ready to ask Grace to be his fiancée… in Iceland! But just 2 weeks before the happy couple set off for the most important trip of their lives, a second dog unexpectedly fell into their laps. Commander, a rescue Golden Retriever, needed a home and Grace just couldn’t turn him down! She convinced Robbie to drive to pick him up that very day to make their own little family complete. Over 3,000 miles away in Iceland, on August 30, 2025, Robbie got down on one knee in front of a beautiful, icy blue waterfall, Brúarfoss, & asked Grace to marry him! There were tears of happiness, shock, & just all-around emotions! Of course, Grace said YES! They continued on with the rest of their trip, now getting to celebrate their engagement together! Coming home to share the news & story with friends + family quickly became their new favorite topic! 2026: After a few months of enjoying their engagement together, family gatherings & all of the holidays, they finally decided to pick a date & tie the knot on October 3, 2026. They now have the joy of planning a wedding that reflects their love, their story, and the life they’re building together.
