Nathan and Grace met in high school in 2022. They had been previously introduced at a family friends party but they didn't see much of each other until their friend groups came together at school lunch. With Grace being a cheerleader and Nathan a football player their meeting seemed inevitable when two of their friends started dating. At lunch breaks they learned they both liked George Strait and realized they had met at their friend's house already. At the homecoming dance Grace admitted to her friends she had a crush on Nathan but she gave them strict instructions not to tell him. They immediately went and told him. Grace is thankful they didn't listen because as soon as Nate found out he came up to Grace at the dance. They've inseparable ever since.
Nathan knew Grace wanted to explore Montana when she visited on her spring break and she always wants to take pictures with him. So he created the perfect cover story that they were going to go see the Missouri River and the Giant Springs and he bought a tri-pod to take some pictures at the river. They walked along the river and Nathan suggested a place they could set up for photos. Grace joked that he just wanted to find a fishing spot as they went. He set up the camera to record and told her to stand and look out at the river to see if it was a good shot. This is when Grace knew something was up, she wanted to turn around so badly to peek at what he was doing but she held her breath and stared at the water. Nathan was on one knee when she turned around and he asked her to marry him. Even though the first thing she said was "I knew it!" she happily said yes.
