Keuka Lake is one of the major Finger Lakes in the U.S. state of New York. It is unusual because it is Y-shaped, in contrast to the long and narrow shape of the other Finger Lakes. "Keuka" is the name the Seneca people gave to the lake, roughly translated to mean "Canoe Landing". Early settlers named her "The Crooked Lake". In the late 1800's the wine industry began to flourish and the vintners felt that Crooked Lake was not a very elegant name to be associated with fine wines. The name of the lake was officially changed to Keuka in 1887.
Founded in 1986, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail is a nonprofit organization dedicated to its member wineries. The wineries of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail are real, local, industrious, and determined businesses that help sustain a beautiful and prosperous region.
