Mark and Rachel met at a church community group in Austin two years ago. Rachel was in town for a medical school interview so her friend Trinity invited her to this new group, and Mark was the community group leader.
Our first date was on February 4th and we became official shortly after that. Our relationship was quickly fortified by three big life-events early on: Rachel had a big jaw surgery in Dallas, but Mark was there with flowers and ice cream the whole time. She was also deciding between Houston and Austin for medical school. If that wasn't complicated enough, Rachel left for a 7-week backpacking trip in Europe as soon as she recovered. But throughout the uncertainty, God was steadfast with His faithfulness and assurance that we had something worth holding onto. Mark: The moment I knew she was the one was when she was in Europe for 7 weeks towards the beginning of our relationship. I didn't know I could miss somebody so much. Rachel: Truly the moment that I was sure was when we went to visit his granny before she passed away - it was so meaningful and being there for Mark during that time made it clear how in love I was with him.
Our relationship the past two years has flourished largely because of people like you, our friends and family. We can't wait to continue to fellowship for the rest of our lives as the Gorham's. - Mark & Rachel
After postponing our wedding celebration, we decided to go ahead and get married anyway. With just our immediate families in attendance in a small chapel in Georgetown, Mark and I exchanged handwritten vows, took communion together, and were pronounced husband and wife for the very first time, signifying our unbreakable covenant to each other and to the Lord. It was one of the best days of both of our lives, and the intimacy of the celebration was an unbelievable gift from God. Thankful is beyond words. This year has shown everyone how unsure the future can be, but (God-willing) we get to celebrate our marriage with our guests this October, which we could not be more excited for!
