How We Met

A Whiskey-Fueled Canadian Meet Cute

The story starts like most great moments—two fellow travelers, a whiskey distillery tour, and a ferry on fire. Stefan and Nicole met on July 22, 2022 at the Glenora Inn & Distillery in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. During the tour, Stefan complimented Nicole on her favorite dinosaur shirt, and Nicole stole some poor bloke’s half-shot of whiskey. Following the tour, they shared a flight of whiskey, lunch, and easy conversation, which turned into a walk on the beach, more drinks, dinner, and a sunset. Then, Nicole had to dash—thanks to a curfew and a kindly Cape Breton grandpa. Fate (or fire) brought them together again the next day, back on the mainland. Stefan’s plans to visit PEI were thwarted by a ferry catching fire, and Nicole had just begun her reluctant journey back to the States. They decided to meet in a town called Tatamagouche—a location chosen purely for its fun name. There, they spent another unforgettable day soaking up the conversation and connection before going their separate ways back to D.C. and Edmonton. In the years that followed, Nicole and Stefan have split their time between the U.S. and Canada. Together, they’ve road-tripped across provinces and states, gone on quests to spot the elusive moose (no luck yet), explored quirky museums (hello Canadian Potato and Gopher Hole Museums), spent hours in board game cafés (ask us about our favorites), perfected the art of charcuterie, navigated new jobs, homes, and time zones, and—most importantly—learned to laugh and cherish each moment they get to share. Stefan proposed to Nicole at the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton—one of the very first places they visited together on Nicole’s first trip to Alberta. And Now… That chance meeting turned into a long-distance love story—and now, a lifetime together. We’re so excited to invite you to join us as we say “I do!” Surrounded by the people we love most, we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter—with laughter, dancing, and maybe even a little whiskey. Grab your passports and join us for our next big adventure.
