We met while playing ultimate frisbee as undergrads and started dating during our last year of college in 2012. This means that we have been together over 11 years. The time has flown by! After college, we moved to different places to further our education: Dan to the Twin Cities and Katherine to Madison. We dated long distance during this time. In 2016, Katherine moved to Iowa to start her PhD, and Dan decided to follow her! After living in Iowa for six years, we moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Katherine got a job. (Notice a trend here - basically, Dan is the best!) After all these years, we have decided to get married. We are so excited to celebrate this moment with all of our loved ones!
While attending Lawrence University for college, we would go on weekend retreats to the university's northern campus of Björklunden. We have many fond memories of Björklunden: napping on the couches in the main hall, playing ultimate frisbee in the snow, drinking hot chocolate, and passing time with friends. We are excited to return with our family and friends to get married at this special place! Björklunden, meaning "Birch Grove" in Swedish, is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. The property is covered by forests and meadows. Our wedding will take place at the Scandinavian style lodge on the property. During the wedding, you are welcome to stroll by the water or wander down one of the many peaceful hiking paths. See below for a map of the property. The route to the lodge is highlighted in blue, and the parking locations are highlighted in pink. Look for signs on the day of the wedding that will lead you to the parking and wedding location.
