Gaye Holud (also known as Haldi) is a traditional Bengali pre-wedding ceremony dating back thousands of years. It marks a time of blessing and preparation before the wedding, during which family and loved ones apply turmeric paste to the couple. The turmeric symbolizes purification, prosperity, and good health, and is believed to bring good fortune as the couple begins their married life. Mehendi is a pre-wedding ceremony celebrating the bride, womanhood, and connection. Traditionally, the bride’s hands and feet are adorned with henna designs, which are believed to bring love, blessings, and good fortune. The scent of henna is also thought to calm and soothe the bride, adding to the serene energy of the event. This intimate gathering is a space for the women in her life to bond, laugh, and share stories before the wedding festivities begin. A traditional event held before the wedding, the Sangeet is a lively evening filled with song, dance, and joyful performances by friends and family, symbolizing the union of two families and the celebration of the couple’s upcoming marriage. Light bites and drinks will be served. PLEASE DISREGARD THE TIME LISTED ON THE PAPER INVITATION AND FOLLOW THE 6PM TIME INDICATED ON THIS SITE.

We can’t wait to celebrate our wedding with you at St. James. While formal attire is encouraged, please wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and elegant for this special occasion. Dress Code: Black tie optional. Long dresses for women and suit or tuxedo for men are recommended.

After the ceremony, please enjoy a leisurely afternoon in Savannah. The bride and groom will be getting ready for the next celebration, so this is a wonderful time to rest, explore the city, and enjoy lunch at your own pace. Baraat (also known as Bor Jatri in Bengali) is a traditional South Asian wedding procession that marks the groom’s celebratory arrival. Accompanied by music, drumming, and dancing, family and friends join the groom in a joyful parade to welcome the upcoming festivities. The Baraat symbolizes excitement, community, and the coming together of both families. Our Baraat will take place immediately before the reception, and guests are warmly invited to join the procession and celebrate together before the evening’s festivities begin.
