A great little place for breakfast or lunch while you are in town. And, well, you are in New Jersey...Diners are kind of our thing. For a uniquely NJ experience, order the Disco Fries.
A nice park for tennis, running or for a nice walk. Not recommended for spelunking or deep sea fishing. Fun fact: Tamaque is a word from the Indian Unalachtigo tribe (Delaware based) for Beaver.
AMAZING food, BYOB. The must try dish is a savory grilled shrimp and mushroom crepe. If you have never been to France, this dish will take you there in one bite. Don't let the outside fool you, Jessica's Cafe is a gem!
Great gastropub in the heart of Westfield. A great town to walk around and check out cute shops. Named after the Addams Family, Westfield is home to illustrator Charles Addams, who came up with the whimsical comic in 1938.
This park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted...one of the two landscape architects who designed Central Park in New York City. So if you can't make the trek into Manhattan to see his most famous endeavor, you can still enjoy his work. Enjoy a nice walk along the lake. You will enjoy beautiful vistas and lovely walking paths. If you miss your doggo, there is a dog park to watch the puppers playing. Got the kiddos? There is a fun playground to enjoy. Peddle boats are also available for a leisurely cruise around the lake.
Fun fact: The Battle of Short Hills occurred in my neighborhood. In fact, during the revolutionary war, Lord Cornwallis marched the British up what is now Raritan Road. He stopped at The Frazee farm when the lady of the house, Betty Frazee was baking bread. As legend has it, she offered Lord Cornwallis bread out of fear, with that, he didn't take it....but otherwise pillaged the homestead. Weird history. Since the Battle of Short Hills took place in this immediate area, there is a good chance George Washington walked through what is now our yard.
General George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette enjoyed a cold one here...or perhaps back then, a warm one, while strategizing what was going to be The Battle of Short Hills. During the Civil War, when President Lincoln needed to call for additional troops he had a rally at the inn. The inn was built in 1737.
William Darby was born in Scotch Plains in 1693 (yup, more history). He was the first Elder and Deacon of the Baptist Church of Scotch Plains which he help found in 1747 which still stands today on the corner of Park and Mountain Ave. Fun Fact: Before being named Park Ave, that Main Street in Scotch Plains was called Darby Road. By the way, Darby Road is an Irish pub....perfectly obvious based on the historical anecdote.
