Our Story

October 2016

Boy meets girl freshman year at Pasadena City College. Having different plans, there was one required class that had to be taken to be eligible for priority scheduling. I had chosen a class that did not conflict with my already mapped-out school schedule. Myles, making a last-minute call before scheduling his classes, wanted to ensure he was able to attend college as a minor. The time it took to get the conflict resolved led to the initial class Myles planned for being filled, thus, leading him to choose the last option available. Surprise! The choices made, led us to enroll in the same class, and that is where our story begins. Class starts, groups are being assigned, and Myles and I do not end up together. Fortunately, the class was one group short. As the teacher went around to each assigned team, Myles, volunteered to start the new and final team. I, feeling nervous, knew this was my best chance, and without reservation, I raised my hand quicker than anyone in the room. Fast-forward a couple of weeks of talking and texting, I invited Myles to my high school’s alma mater football game where he was able to meet my friends and family. My sister was the first to hear about Myles when I came home from school that second day. I told her I met the cutest guy from my College 1 class and showed her a picture I found of him. She responded with “oh my gosh, he's so cute, tell me everything!! What else do you know about him?". From there, my sister gave me pep talks and motivation to build up more confidence in getting to know him. My mom saw Myles at the football game and was skeptical at first but mentioned that there was something special about the way he smiled it made her feel good. She said “I felt his personality as he spoke with his positive qualities, vibe, and humility. Even though it was our first meeting, and he was extremely nervous, he was funny, and charming, and I could feel the respect he has for my daughter”. On the other hand, my dad always gave Myles a hard time from the beginning. That’s what fathers are supposed to do, right? His first thoughts when meeting Myles were “look at this redneck/ gangbanger with my daughter?” when he saw Myles had a tattoo on his calf. My father grew to love Myles and always asked, “when is Myles coming over, I have a lot to share with him!” Myles and my family bonded very quickly. On October 7th, 2016, Myles asked me to be his girlfriend. Adventures continue to be shared together and memories are created with our family and friends.

The Proposal

March 7, 2021

After 4 years of dating, I knew that Ashley was the woman God put on this planet for me. So, I sought out with the help of her family to plan a proposal that Ashley would never forget. Starting off, horseback riding has always been a favorite activity for Ashley and obviously, that would have to be included. Next, the place to do the horseback riding would have to be picturesque and somewhere we both had never been… So, I found a private horseback riding tour that went to the top of Mt. Hollywood right at sunset. The difficult part was attempting to plan how Ash’s mom and sister as well as my dad could sneak to the destination where I would propose to Ash without her finding out… Believe me, there were countless times when Ash would be asking why we were randomly planning a horseback riding trip and not celebrating anything! Regardless, March 7th, 2021, came around and it was the morning of the proposal! To say that I was the most nervous I had ever been was a complete understatement. On top of that, I had to try and play off my nerves through church, through lunch, and that afternoon while also having to hide that this proposal had been in planning for months… So, Ashley was a little suspicious that day… As we drove to the stables to head for our horseback ride, it was nearly impossible for me to sit still as my heart was beating out of my chest… Once we arrived and explained who we are, the stable magically had an opening for a “private tour” where it was just Ashley and me with a tour guide. So, the small awkward talk continued throughout the tour and as we came to the top of Mt. Hollywood the tour guide began to complain about her knee and was requesting if we could stop and just enjoy the sunset. So, what a perfect time to “take some pictures” with the sunset! At this point, I literally thought I was going to pass out… But, as I told Ashley to look at the sunset and I nervously pulled the ring box out. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Rosanne, my dad, and Nicole sprinting from behind the bushes and the tour guide with her camera at the ready… I knew I was right where I was supposed to be… I got down on one knee and asked the woman of my dreams to marry me…
