After being cooped up from covid for way too many months in our apartment, Jon said, "Let's take a trip to Santa Barbara for our birthdays (which are 10 days apart)" I said "great, let's do it! Let's start planning," to which he responded, "No, I got it." As the queen of planning, I thought that something must be up. But I let Jon go about his planning, and anytime I asked for a planning update he told me it was all taken care of. I had no idea where we were staying and more importantly where we were eating, and it was starting to drive me crazy. Jon kept saying, I'm just trying to do something nice for you! So I said fine and let him do his thing. Finally the morning of our trip came and Jon had half told me what hotel we were staying at, but he was totally lying. After the drive up from LA, he exited the freeway at the exit before Santa Barbara, and drove up to the Rosewood in Montecito (easily one of the most beautiful hotels in California). After a quick meal overlooking the water, we headed to our mutually-loved Santa Barbara destination, McKinney Family Vineyards. We arrived and were greeted by the owner Matt, who was finishing up with another group. He gave us a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and told us to hang out. Finally it was time for our tasting -- Matt handed us each a glass of his special blend Siren and said "Let me show you what's new on the property." Matt brought us into the vineyard, and as we kept walking, I could feel Jon no longer behind me. I turned around, and he was down on one knee asking for me to marry him with the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. The scene could not be more perfect. Our favorite spot, with one of our favorite wines, and the most amazing escape from the craziness of 2020. Of course I said yes (that's why we're here), and we proceeded to drink all our favorite McKinney wines before heading to a stunning, unforgettable dinner at San Ysidro Ranch. For the millionth time I'll say, JON NAILED IT!
