Bride
We guess we should put ourselves on here... You all should know Giulia, but in case you don't, here are a few facts: she loves Sarge, fountain pens, cats, and books. You can usually find her at her desk working on her PhD research or on the couch playing Zelda (thanks, Megs). Sarge first asked her out by asking if she wanted to meditate with him (please ask us about this - Sarge is always embarrassed about it, and Giulia always finds this highly amusing). Then she never let him get away. Potentially it may have been her cooking and baking that swayed him, but Sarge insists it was her weirdness and her potentially having liver disease (it was nothing). She's also very bad at smiling in pictures.
Groom
Sarge is a rock of a person, who is determined to make his own way. He has apparently never had any doubts ever about Giulia saying yes to him - not when he asked her to be his girlfriend and not when he asked her to be his wife. He loves Giulia, football, being creative, football, animals, football, the Chargers - oh wait, that's also football. (Please don't bring up the past season on the big day unless Jim Harbaugh ends up getting hired. UPDATE: HE DID!) It's unclear whether or not he would have married Giulia on the same day as the Superbowl, but Giulia has decided to forgive him for this. He is the most patient person Giulia has ever met, which means that he is perfect for her given her insanity. He is pretty pleased with his catch.
Maid of Honor
Megs and Giulia met as mortal enemies in elementary school through equestrian vaulting and then became best friends forever. She has been through thick and thin with Giulia and has been her absolute rock through so much! Giulia cannot imagine her life without her (nor does she wish to).
Best Man
One could say Sarge and Ben met when Ben was born. After that, Ben dutifully fulfilled the role of annoying little brother. In their later years, the two decided to set aside their sibling rivalry. Now Ben is someone who Sarge has always been able to rely on for advice and support in his life. His favorite pastimes are watching football, standup comedy (Bill Burr anyone?), and playing golf. Ben once beat Sarge in golf so badly that Sarge hit Ben’s Big Bertha driver so hard against the ground that it snapped in half. Ben told Sarge to go to therapy and Sarge has been going to therapy and shitty at golf to this day.
Bridesmaid
Gabi and Giulia met at a class at UCSD, decided to meet for coffee, and then just hit it off like they knew each other forever. They both love tea, cats, makeup, critiquing power structures, thorny medical ethics questions, research ethics, oops, I've gotten off topic now. Gabi is such a wholesome, warm person, and she immediately felt like home to Giulia. She is also now aunt to all Giulia's cats.
Best Man
Gabe is Sarge's older brother, and he had the dubious pleasure of watching Sarge go from little munchkin to (soon to be) married man. Sarge looks up to him as a role model for his entrepreneurial spirit and how he grew his family.
Bridesmaid
Emma and Giulia are childhood friends and met when they were 7. They have bonded over books, all sorts of fiber crafts, and Emma's hilarious renditions of people's personalities. Emma has always been a warm and kind person in Giulia's life and has always felt like a safe space. Giulia is honored she could be here for the big day!
Groomsman
Stefano, Giulia's little brother, is the most fascinating human specimen you will ever meet. (Just ask him about mushrooms and math.) He has always been a safe haven for Giulia and he has always wanted to see Sarge and Giulia married. We quite like that.
Mother of the Bride
What can anyone say about Mamma (aka Mamma Bufala) other than she is a miraculous being that has accomplished so, so much? Giulia is always inspired by her mom's relentless drive (though she also thinks it's really time for Mamma to just chill) and her ability to problem solve pretty much anything. Giulia would be nowhere without Mamma's influence and deep belief in her. She is the first person Giulia calls when she panics about a recipe or thinks she screwed up in her professional/work life. Giulia is now getting emotional and needs to stop typing.
Mother of the Groom
Sarge’s mom, Lucy, was born in Lawrence, Kansas and was raised on a farm with her sister, Sarge’s Aunt Amy. She started riding horses at the age of five and has continued to ride and compete in horse shows throughout Sothern California. Lucy, after Sarge’s Dad passed when he was just one years old, moved her family to Rancho Sante Fe, CA where she raised her boys Sarge and Ben. If asked, both would say that they have the best mom in the world.
Honorary Bridesmaid From Afar
Mave and Giulia met on Facebook when they were trying to find roommates at USC. Mave kept Giulia sane (and also showered) through the first few years of college and is really the whole reason Giulia and Sarge met in the first place. We wouldn't be here without her - literally! Mave unfortunately cannot make it on the big day but we know she will be with us in spirit and in celebration!
Father of the Bride
Giulia and Papi bonded over cars, fountain pens, being meticulous to the point of being annoying, wanting to understand how things work, and so much more. Giulia would not be herself without Papi. She is so grateful he is her father. He has taught her so much and always always always encouraged her curiosity. Also, he is who she calls when something weird happens with the house or the car. He has also been consulted when Giulia's friends' cars have gone awry. Usually, he fixes everything over the phone. Superpowers!
