Our Love StoryOur Love Story

Thank you Turtle Jacks Port Carling!

Giselle and Matt met in 2018 while working at Turtle Jack’s, where Matt was bartending and Giselle was serving. Giselle thought Matt was unbelievably handsome but was too nervous to go up and talk to him, and Matt only ever noticed her pink server belt. Finally after most of the summer passing, at The KEE to Bala, Matt's opening line was “want a shot?” from that night on, they were completely inseparable and neither of them could believe it was real. Three weeks later, before Giselle had to go back to Carleton University in Ottawa, they went away to Niagara Falls for one last perfect weekend. That trip turned into everything. On the Maid of the Mist under the falls, Matt told Giselle he was going to marry her one day and he gave her a promise ring. Later that same night, full of wine and tequila, and very strong feelings, they ended up in a tattoo shop at 2am getting matching tattoos. Luckily it worked out. Long distance meant nonstop driving as they drove back and forth from Ottawa to Aurora and endless hours of FaceTimes. At the end of that school year, they landed back at Turtle Jack’s and started their little adult life together. One day, in true Giselle and Matt fashion, they wandered into the SPCA “just to look” and walked out with a nine month old puppy named Loka. That sweet girl somehow made them fall even more in love. After surviving two full years of long distance, they moved into a tiny cabin in Muskoka with Loka and Giselle's brother Brody, with all their best friends nearby. With the summer coming to an end they leaned into their nomadic lifestyle and drove across the country in a seven day convoy with nine of their best friends (and Loka), ending up in Squamish, British Columbia during COVID. It was chaotic, ridiculous, and perfect. Following one last summer in Muskoka, they decided they were done with snow and packed up their lives to move to Grand Cayman. There they built a beautiful, full life together, filled with, beach days, launching businesses, finishing degrees, and learning what real island life looks like. In August 2024, Matt got down on one knee with Brody right there to support them and asked Giselle to marry him. It felt like the most natural thing in the world. They cannot wait to spend forever laughing, travelling, creating a family, and doing life side by side.
