A member of Historic Hotels of America, the Francis Marion Hotel opened its doors in 1924. The 12 story building offers spectacular views of Charleston’s church steeples, historic mansions, and famous harbor. It is also in walking distance to the wealth of Charleston’s attractions. CHARLESTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CHS) Charleston International Airport is Charleston’s nearest airport, with direct flights operated to and from 30 cities, mostly along the east coast and in the upper midwest and Texas. Located in the separately-incorporated city of North Charleston, it is approximately 12 miles northwest of Charleston’s downtown Historic District, where the majority of hotels are. Connections to the historic downtown peninsula are available by taxi, rideshare, shuttle, rental car and public transit. MYRTLE BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MYR) Myrtle Beach International Airport is 95 miles northeast of Charleston, around 2 hours and 15 minutes by car. COLUMBIA METROPOLITAN AIRPORT (CAE) Columbia Metropolitan Airport is located around 110 miles northwest of Charleston, a drive of less than 2 hours by car. CHARLOTTE DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CLT) Charlotte is the closest major airport to Charleston, receiving flights from most larger domestic cities and several international cities. It is located around 210 miles from Charleston, a drive of around three and a half hours.

BY TRAIN

AMTRAK Amtrak services Charleston from all across the USA. It offers a comfortable and scenic ride with the advantage of being able to walk around to stretch your legs. It doesn't hurt that there is a food car! The Amtrak station is in North Charleston, around 11 miles north of the downtown area. Connections to the historic downtown peninsula are available by taxi, rideshare, and public transit.

Parking Information

The city of Charleston is very particular in regards to on the street parking. Please ensure that your cars front and back tires fall within the markings on the street. If parking on the street by any of the beaches, ensure that all tires are off the street. As always, check the street signs for any restrictions.
