Explore historic downtown Charleston with a friendly, engaging guide, a beautiful horse, and a comfortable carriage for a ride through history. We've done this tour and LOVED it. We do recommend that in the heat of July you take the tour first thing in the morning or last in the evening as the heat and smell of the horse can be overpowering. A walking tour is also a great option! There are a number of companies that offer them.
The waterfront at Shem Creek is one of our favorite spots! It's located just north of downtown Charleston in Mount Pleasant. Day or night it is a lively and picturesque! You can find great food and drinks all within view of the creek as you watch the dolphins swim by. If you're feeling adventurous schedule a a kayak or paddleboard tour!
Boone Hall Plantation was founded in 1681 when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a lucrative plantation and gracious home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. In 1743, the son of Major John Boone planted live oak trees, arranging them in two evenly spaced rows. This spectacular approach to his home symbolizes southern heritage. It would take two centuries for the massive, moss-draped branches to meet overhead, forming today’s natural corridor. Boone Hall Plantation offers a house tour, a tractor tour of the plantation, garden tours, a slave history presentation and is the only plantation in the S.C. Lowcountry to present a live presentation of Gullah culture adapted by African slaves.
