Ben and Gina met in their sophomore year in a class called Networks, Strategies, and Tactics which was all about social networking and finding ways to communicate the importance of a social issue to others to create change, something that they are both very passionate about. The next year, they took another class together and were partners on a group project. Ben texted Gina about their assignment for class one day, and they ended up meeting up to work on homework at a coffee shop. From there they hit it off, and they went on their first official date a week later -- lunch at Nodo and a movie at Filmscene.
Ben proposed to Gina on June 7, 2020 on a hike in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. They sat down near the creek to take a break from hiking, and when Gina wasn't looking, Ben put the ring, which he had hidden in a ring box made from a geode on the ground. When they got up to continue their hike, Ben pointed out the rock and picked it up. Gina turned to see that Ben had opened the rock and there was a ring inside!
