One of my (Elizabeth) favorite things about Front Royal is that it has no lack of quaint coffee shops. DL campus wins my vote for best atmosphere!...a chill place to grab a coffee or cappuccino and relax. Also, it's only a 3 minute walk right down Mainstreet from the church (in case anyone needs a good spot to go hang out and rest up prior to the wedding and partying at the reception)! Some other cute coffee shops all within the same vicinity are Daily Grind and Melania's.
Best s'mores latte ever!...with homemade toasted marshmallows!! This place wins my vote for best coffee. Melania's is a bit pricier than the other coffee shops, but everything is made from scratch and you can certainly taste the luxury! Definitely a worthwhile place to splurge and indulge oneself in assorted coffees and pastries all while supporting the young couple who owns it:) Also only a 4 minute walk from the church, so don't even worry about parking!
Looking for something to help warm yourself come January? Rappahannock Cellars is a favorite of the locals and offers fine wine sourced right from their vineyard. They have a multilevel winery which offers plenty of different seating and lounge areas. Located about 15 minutes from Front Royal.
The Main Street Mill is located right on historic Main Street (the same street as the Church)! Eat delicious home-style cooking amidst a rustic atmosphere.
Just about everyone acquainted with Front Royal will tell you to grab a bite at Spelunker's. It's a go-to burger joint and is a good informal dinning option if all you care about is satisfying that craving for a burger and fries.
If the weather isn't too bad, Skyline Drive offers breathtaking views of the Shenandoah Valley as the road takes you along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Since it is a national park, there is an entrance fee into the park of around $30 per car. Once in, there's also many hiking trails of various lengths and difficulties that branch directly off the main drive.
Middleburg is one of my (Elizabeth) favorite places in the area and reminds me a lot of Skaneateles but without the lake (for those of you coming from NY). It is a charming old equestrian town from 1787 that has aged very gracefully and is know as the "Nation's Horse and Hunt Capital." With many quaint shops, historic landmarks, and high-end dining, Middleburg is a really neat place to walk around and spend an afternoon or evening.
Across the road from West Main Street (where the wedding ceremony will take place), Front Royal's historic East Main Street is a lively place to walk any time of day and is lined with bars, boutiques, restaurants, the historic movie theater and many holiday lights.
What makes this bar stand out from all the rest is that it's second floor is entirely dedicated to pool tables. It's been a popular spot to grab a drink while having the fun of playing pool, especially since it can cater to large parties of people playing pool together.
