If you're staying in Corpus Christi or want to explore the area, there's plenty to see and do! Corpus has more dining, shopping, and hotel options than Rockport, and it's a convenient base if you’re flying in or out of Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP). It’s an easy drive to Rockport — about 35–40 minutes away. For beach time, head to North Padre Island (about 20–25 minutes from downtown) for Gulf-facing beaches like Whitecap Beach or Padre Island National Seashore; far better for swimming and relaxing than bayfront beaches. If parking on the beach, a permit is required. Most can be bought at a gas station or HEB.
If you’re staying in Rockport (or just spending the day), you’ll find plenty of small-town charm and coastal beauty. The historic downtown area of Rockport is full of: Art galleries & studios (this town has a big artsy side!) Coastal boutiques Coffee shops & casual cafes
If you have some free time, we highly recommend a day trip to Port Aransas (Port A), a fun, laid-back beach town just 30–40 minutes from Rockport, including a scenic and free ferry ride. It’s the perfect way to explore more of the Texas coast! Port A is known for its wide, sandy Gulf beaches, which offer better swimming and water quality than the calmer bay waters in Rockport. You can check out local shops, go on a dolphin-watching tour, or explore the town! The ferry runs 24/7 A $12 permit is needed if you park on the beach (sold locally)
