She Said Yes, He Said 'Phew’!

We grew up in the same neighborhood, just four years apart, so we didn’t know much about each other. Ryan went to school with my sisters and knew my brother Vicente through a mutual friend. Ryan didn’t realize Vicente was related to me until he connected the two while riding through the neighborhood on Halloween. Intrigued, Ryan began his "investigation" to see if I was “on the market,” as he calls it, by questioning my brother—though my brother had no idea what was going on. Once he got the confirmation, Ryan sent me a message via Facebook Messenger on November 11, 2022, saying: "How have you been? I was with your brother the other day at Kevin’s, haha, it’s a small world. I was telling Lety the other day I’m always with your brother when he’s at Kevin’s house, but I had no idea that was your brother until the night of Halloween 😂😂 It’s a small world. Your little one is not so little anymore—time flies!" I replied, and that’s where our story began. As Mia noticed I was messaging or talking on the phone more often, I’d tell her I was talking to Jake from State Farm—our "insurance agent" cover story. 😅 Last year, we realized we had been Facebook friends for 14 years! ❦❦❦ ❦❦❦ ❦❦❦ Crecimos en el mismo vecindario, con cuatro años de diferencia, así que no sabíamos mucho el uno del otro. Cuando Mia notó que estaba enviando mensajes o hablando por teléfono más a menudo, le decía que estaba hablando con Jake de State Farm—nuestra historia de "agente de seguros". 😅 El año pasado nos dimos cuenta de que habíamos sido amigos en Facebook durante 14 años.

Ryan planned a mini Christmas photo shoot with a local photographer in Athens, GA, without me knowing the details. He arranged for the photographer to capture this special moment for us! After some family photos, Ryan and I took a few more of for ourselves, when suddenly, he got down on one knee with a ring. In all the excitement and nerves, he forgot the most important part — he forgot to ask me to marry him! 😂 As he knelt down and I was still in shock, I hadn’t responded yet, and all that was running through his mind was, "Oh no, She’s going to say no." After realizing he hadn’t actually asked, he whispered softly, “Will you marry me?” As we all gather on September 19th, 2025; we know the answer was YES!!! Later that evening, Ryan had planned a family dinner at my brother and sister-in-law’s house, making it sound like a matching Christmas pajama party. Yes, it was a matching Christmas pajama party, but there was another reason behind it. It was for all of us to gather and celebrate our engagement and the next step of our relationship. ❦❦❦ ❦❦❦ ❦❦❦ Ryan planeó una mini sesión de fotos navideñas con una fotógrafa local en Athens, GA, sin que yo supiera los detalles. ¡Organizó todo para que la fotógrafa capturara este momento tan especial para nosotros! Al reunirnos todos el 19 de septiembre de 2025, ¡sabemos que la respuesta fue, SÍ!!! Más tarde esa noche, Ryan había planeado una cena familiar en la casa de mi hermano y cuñada, haciéndolo sonar como una fiesta de pijamas navideñas.
