Alex and Blake both attended the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia. During first semester finals of their 1L year, Blake was in line behind Alex for the free grilled cheese in the law library. He opened with "I think we have Civ Pro together." Alex thought his playoff beard was cute and said "Yeah, we do." The two athletes/nerds hit it off from there.
In November 2018, Alex and Blake traveled back to Charlottesville together for the first time since graduation. It was supposed to be for Alex's birthday just a few days before, but Blake had other plans. He booked a private winery tour at Grace Estate Vineyards and popped the question on top of the hill at sunset overlooking the valley after reminiscing on their time together at UVA. Blake was extra sneaky and had both families and close friends waiting in the tasting room for a celebration. The night ended in a very UVA fashion with dancing on the tables at the Virginian, belting out "I'm Proud to be an American" and getting dumplings on the Corner. (We're still really sorry Matt's car got towed, by the way.)
We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter with you in Alex's hometown of Ocean City, Maryland. Our venue is a horse farm with beautiful accommodations for an outdoor wedding. Celebrations are sure to include plenty of laughter, good food and dancing. We will try to limit the amount of country music played at this black tie (optional) affair, but no promises! See you on the Eastern Shore!
After the honeymoon, Alex and Blake will return to Houston, Texas where they both work as corporate attorneys. They feel God has led them there for the time being and they are focusing on serving Him and investing in relationships with others. Alex loves her work as a capital markets lawyer and Blake is continuing to build foundational dealmaking skills as a corporate attorney that he plans to use in his business career, however that unfolds. They enjoy working out, learning to play tennis and enjoying time outside with friends in the fun city of Houston. Marriage will require constant work, but they can't wait to journey together as best friends through God's grace in the plans He has for them. Let us know if you want to come visit the best state in the union!
