We both started college at the University of South Florida in 2017 and, by pure fate (and a housing algorithm), ended up in the same dorm. During move-in week, our RA hosted an icebreaker to help everyone get to know each other, and we were randomly paired up. For the next six months, we went about our lives as friendly strangers: the occasional hallway "hi," passing nods, and (on Tahir's part) a healthy dose of smitten stares during our shared precalc lecture. Legend has it he spent more time calculating the odds of getting my number than solving for x. Eventually, he worked up the courage to ask for my info, and the rest is history. #GoBulls
I’ve always known Gen was the one; it just took me a little time to plan how to make it official. When the moment finally came, I knew exactly where it had to happen: the little waterfront park across the street where we would walk Dakoda, unwind after long days, and somehow always end up talking longer than planned. There was only one problem: the lawn hadn’t been mowed in weeks. And proposing on an unkempt field simply wasn’t an option. So, naturally, I decided the only solution was to take matters into my own hands. I was going to Lowe’s to rent a push lawn mower and cut the grass myself. How was I going to hide this from Gen? No idea. But I had the ring, the vision, and a job to do. The day before the proposal, just as I was about to head out the door, the grass was magically cut. It felt like the universe was stepping in and giving me a sign that everything was falling into place. With the perfect setting ready, a heart-shaped arch waiting, Dakoda by our side, and my nerves fully on display, I asked the most important question of my life. She said yes, and the rest is history.
