Gellyn was in her final semester of college and interning at a nonprofit organization. Her internship included recruiting volunteers to become mentors for a hospitality event within the hotels in Waikiki. It all started with an email request from Gellyn. Kerwinn was the president of the hospitality club at his college, so when he received the email, he thought it was from an older lady. Little did he know that she was going to be someone he would develop an interest in. However, this was the year of the 2020 worldwide pandemic. The event that Gellyn was working on was cancelled, so she told Kerwinn about it. Even though she thought that was the end for the two of them, Kerwinn had other plans in mind. He would continue to try to talk to Gellyn. During this time, the new Animal Crossing game on the Nintendo Switch came out. Kerwinn found out that Gellyn used to play Animal Crossing and saw that as a way for the two of them to talk. After the game was released and they both got it, it was during their time of playing together on the game that they learned that they had a lot in common than they thought. The two friends then became a couple a year after they first met. After a few months of being together, Gellyn had decided to leave the island for work in Florida. They did long-distance for six months. After returning to the island, Gellyn could still not find the work she wanted to do, and then applied for another opportunity in San Diego. That work opportunity led to Gellyn moving once again, but this time it would be for one year. The two continued to do long-distance, and would visit each other here and there. It was during that time of distance that the two learned to communicate, and their relationship grew stronger. After Gellyn officially returned home, they spent another year together. Finally, on May 27th, 2024, Kerwinn locked in with the question at hand, to ensure Gellyn would not leave again <3
