Eric and I met in college at the University of Maryland College park. Unfortunately, neither of us remember our first meeting! Perhaps it was in physics class or at a party but somehow he got my phone number and name and saved me in his contacts. A number of years later after we both graduated I got a weird voicemail on my phone, it was five minutes of background noise from a classroom. Against my mothers recommendations I texted the number back saying "I got your phone call but I don't have your number in my phone... who are you?" As it turns out Eric had lent his phone to a student in his class and the student had accidentally called me during class. After that we began texting back and forth and met up for our first date about a month later. Could have been a coincidence but I prefer to think of it as destiny.
The day before Thanksgiving I was heading home from work around 9AM (night shift time) and I got an unusual phone call from Eric. He told me that he had forgotten his lunch at home and he would really like me to pick it up and deliver it to him at school. I had my suspicions, but after calling my mother and having her insist that it couldn't be a possible proposal, I headed over to the school with his pre-made lunch. When I got there the front desk sent me to his classroom with an escort and I had the shock of my life. The entire classroom was decorated with engagement signs and flower petals. Eric had his all of his students assembled and together they asked me if I would marry Mr. Struder! After getting over the shock, I said yes and the whole classroom cheered! Shortly after we got visits from just about every student, teacher, and administrator in the school congratulating us on our engagement. Turns out the whole school knew about the proposal before I did. Check out our video here - https://youtu.be/BlHQ4JjMEhI
