A bunch of cool hiking/ mountain biking trails here. Could hike for an hour or 4, depending on your preferences. Right in town on the East side of Santa Fe. This is where we got engaged!
The Santa Fe Plaza is a site to behold. A beautiful tree lined plaza surrounded by art galleries, hotels, and some of the oldest churches in the United States all dressed up in Adobe and Turquoise. You can wander up Canyon Road for a look at old Santa Fe (and a look at some mega millions Villas and Art Galleries), or tour the variety of fancy and haunted hotels in downtown Santa Fe.
Williams Lake is a great shorter hike up at Taos Ski Valley. This is one of our favorite ski touring areas in the winter, but it's a great hike in the summer too. For a little more challenge you can tack on Wheeler Peak, the tallest mountain in New Mexico, should take 2-5 hours depending on who's setting the pace.
Bandolier National Monument is a historic site with Puebloan ruins less than an hour from Santa Fe. A good half day trip to check out some cool history.
The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is an impressive site two hours north of Santa Fe. Huge Vistas and an incredible canyon drop below. For the whitewater enthusiast, there are several whitewater runs near Pilar, NM nearby. Class II and a Class III whitewater runs are easily shuttleable and though fall flows are pretty low, a kayak or packraft would still be fun.
These unique trails, located an hour and a quarter away from Santa Fe, are great for hiking, biking, and vista-seeking. A great place to see lots of gypsum as well as its geological, cultural and paleontological resources.
