Flight
When flying into Italy, if your plan is to come directly to the wedding or travel in the area, Milan is the best city to fly into. There are trains you can take directly to Como if you choose not to rent a car!
Rental Car
If you choose to rent a car in Italy, there are three points in keep in mind: 1. Make sure you choose automatic if you want to drive automatic. The default is usually manual! 2. Before you go, sign up for an International's Driver License. It's not expensive and can be done in advance, but some rental car companies will require it upon arrival without telling you! (Can you tell that this happened to us?) 3. If they offer to provide a toll service (basically like an EZ-Pass in Italy), you should take it! Some roads only have overhead automatic toll payments, and if you don't have an automatic service, you're then expected to mail in payment to the townships! This is almost impossible since you don't see them coming, and you can/will get ticketed. Most rental car dealers will offer this either when reserving or the car online or when you pick it up.
Hotel
Update: All rooms have been taken/finalized! Update: The bride and groom booked several rooms at several hotels with free cancellation until July! If you're looking for a room at an affordable hotel, please contact the bride and groom to see if any are still available. We can transfer the bookings accordingly. Original: The following are our recommendations for hotels if you are booking yourself! There is no set hotel block as many hotels in the area are small, boutique spots that could not accommodate the entire party or would only allow a block for one night. We do recommend that if you are even considering coming, you should book a hotel soon with a pay later option and free cancellation. This is a very popular vacation area so it will become harder to get hotels as time goes on. Booking now will allow you to book for much cheaper, and you can book at no upfront cost!!! If you're looking for upscale and want to use/earn hotel points: Consider the Sheraton Lake Como (a Marriott location) or the Hilton Lake Como. Both are great options! The Sheraton is closer to our welcome dinner event and the Hilton is closer to the wedding venue. If you're looking for upscale and classic Italian style: Consider The Palace Hotel or Albergo Terminus. Both of these options are walking distance (about a 15 minute walk) from the wedding venue, and the rooms have beautiful Italian architecture. If you're looking for budget friendly: Consider Albergo Firenze, Hotel Borgo Antico, AMA 18 Rooms -By House Of Travelers-, Spazio 77 - By House Of Travelers, Hotel Marco's, or Hotel Como. We have done research and all seem to be popular with vacationers! They all got very good reviews on all rental sites. AirBnb and Vrbo are also options in this region. There are multiple other small, boutique hotels in the area that are affordable and would be lovely for your Italian stay!
