Will and I were lucky enough to visit Lake Como in September 2021. It was a bucket list destination for both of us. When we got engaged, we thought back to how wonderful our trip was and decided to pursue our dream wedding in Italy! We truly can't believe how lucky we are to get married in a location as wonderful as this one.
We are flying into Italy on Friday, 8/4 from EWR and landing on Saturday, 8/5 at MXP. On Saturday, 8/5, our plan will be to explore Como and take the funicular to Brunate for dinner. If you're in the area this day, we're sure to run into you! If anyone wants to explore with us, just let us know. On Sunday, 8/6, we're taking the ferry to Varenna. We'll probably take an 11:00 ferry and transfer in Menaggio. We'll visit Castello di Vezio and Villa Monastero (we will be buying tickets in advance) and have maybe an aperitif or two! Again, please feel free to come on the ferry with us! We'll be heading back around 5:00 and have a family dinner scheduled this night. On Monday, 8/7, we're taking a day trip to Lucerne, Switzerland. This trip includes a stop at Mt Pilatus for lunch (we'll be taking to cogwheel railway up and the cable cars down!) and free time in Lucerne before a group fondue dinner! We won't see anyone this day other than who's on the trip but we'll catch you another day :) On Tuesday, 8/8, our families are doing a private boat tour to Villa Balbianello and then being dropped off in Bellagio around 3:00. From there, we'll explore Bellagio, have dinner, and take a later ferry back to Como that we'll play by ear. Feel free to meet us in Bellagio! It'll be a casual dinner with no reservations. On Wednesday, 8/9, we're having a free morning for our families to choose their own activities! Cooking classes, wine tastings, etc. are all activities available in the area. On Wednesday night, we invite you all to join us at Terrazza 241 for aperitifs at 5:00. While this is not an official wedding event, we hope to welcome you all the weekend! On Thursday, 8/10, we'll see you all for the Welcome Dinner! And Friday, 8/11 is Wedding Day!!! We'll see you all for the ceremony at 5:00 and keep the party going until 1:00 AM. On Saturday, 8/12, our final day, we plan on spending time relaxing and recovering at Lido di Faggeto. There may be seats available so text us!
First and foremost, your passport! All travelers need an active passport to travel. Please make sure your passport does not expire within 6 months of the trip as this is a passport requirement for travel abroad. Other items you will need include plug adapters (for electric!) and Euros (if you would like cash on hand). There are currently no COVID restrictions or regulations for traveling to Italy but we will update this if anything changes.
There are a couple ways! You can either rent a car at the airport or take a train into Como. If you choose to drive, make sure to file for an international driver's permit. It's a very easy process, takes five minutes online, and you don't need anything other than your normal license in order to get one! But the Italian rental companies can be sticklers... as Will and I found out on our last trip!!! Check out other rental car tips under Travel.
Beautiful! The weather this time of year will likely range from mid-70s to high-80s during the day and low-60s to low-70s at night. It will be warm enough to partake in water sports and swimming but chillier at night.
This question is mostly for our female guests! The ceremony itself will be on a lawn/grassy area, so please wear shoes that you're comfortable with on that type of terrain!
As much as we'd love to travel trans-continentally with flip-flops for all female guests, our suitcases will be a little too full :( Whatever shoes you choose to wear, please make sure you'll be comfy and can dance all night long in them! (or bring a pair to change into!)
That would be Will's Aunt Carol Lohne! She is so extremely talented, and we are so grateful that she painted such beautiful watercolors for us to use as part of our wedding. Thank you!!!
The ferry is the best way!!! Ferry schedules at the link below: https://www.navigazionelaghi.it/en/tickets-and-timetables-lake-como/
We're keeping the party going in Italy! We'll be in Puglia for 8 days and Sicily for 6 days.
