UBERs and LYFTs have a designated pick-up spot at the newly redesigned and rebuilt airport; these are much cheaper and more reliable than the local area taxi cab companies.

How should I get around the city?

Answer

UBERs and LYFTs are available throughout the city, please download the app and set up a form of payment within the app prior to arrival. Additionally, the streetcar stops directly outside of the Hyatt Regency on Loyola Ave. Streetcars are historic to the city, and fares are $1.25 (one way). Unlimited 'Jazzy Passes' are available in 3-day ($9.00) and 5-day ($15.00) as well. Streetcar passes are available from the operator on the streetcar, at Walgreens, or on the 'RTA GoMobile' app.

What should I pack? How should I dress for the weather?

New Orleans is definitely a semi-tropical climate. You can expect temperatures to be in the mid-high 80s, with high humidity. The city is prone to short, random bouts of rain that last anywhere from 5-20 minutes; you should plan on bringing an umbrella or light rainjacket in the off-chance that it rains while you are out and about.
