Sierra: Andy and I met at Cohen College prep. I walked in the first day of professional development and noticed a very cute guy with a neck tattoo, a beard and a sweatshirt with a skull on it. From there I concluded that he MUSt be in a motorcycle gang and I was very much ready for a wild ride! At the time I was a teaching resident and he taught AP Gov. and Civics. We never ever really talked to each other! We may have had two or three small conversations, but it never went further than that. I tried to ask him about his cat when he was giving it up but he differed me to his slack profile! I also almost moved across the hall from him as I was looking for cheaper housing. How funny would that have been! Andy: I noticed Sierra on her first day of work at Cohen. Obviously, I thought she was really cute. But, I can be shy. One day, Sierra came into my room to babysit while I took a restroom break. When I came back, kids all went 'ooh' and 'ahh-' asking why it was Ms. Jenkins that came to my room. Kids might be smarter than we give them credit for. It wasn't until the last week or so of school that I started to enact my plan for how to ask Sierra out. I saw on another co-workers Instagram that they were in the school library, and, although Sierra doesn't believe me, I went to the school library just to see her and start to lay a foundation for how to ask her out.
Sierra: I was on Instagram and recorded a video asking about good cheesesteaks in New Orleans. To my surprise Andy replied and said he knew two places. He said we could try one or both and compare. He told me when he worked and told me to decide a day to go. I decide on a Wednesday after the class I was taking. We had both texted another teacher from our school about the upcoming date and she plotted to have us all hang out the day before (which was fourth of July). We went to Andy's bartending job -- he ordered me a VIP crawfish grilled cheese ( a man after my own heart) and made me his signature drink which was a spicy Paloma. Afterwards I went to go swimming at our mutual friends house and they told him to also come by. We chatted there and then also chatted for an hour before we actually left to get in our cars. I told Andy he should watch handmaids tale (Later I learned he actually paid for the episodes to watch so he could talk to me about it) LOL. Andy: Just a week or so after school let out for the summer, I was sort of preparing and plotting how to best ask Sierra out. One day, I saw her post on Instagram (a plot to show off her hair), asking about good cheesesteak joints in the city. I told her I knew of two (a partial lie...) and “I’ll show you... ball’s in your court.” So we made plans, and then both immediately texted a mutual friend, who proceeded to try to orchestrate a “pre date” where she brought Sierra to my bartending job and I really tried to turn up the charm. Afterwards, we went to a friends house, and Sierra and I talked outside our cars until one in the morning. We still joke about the fact that I did not even think to ask Sierra for her number at this point. Truthfully, I was too nervous about the “date” the next evening...
Sierra: Our first date took place at Origami on feret st. We were supposed to be getting Philly cheesesteaks but the restaurant was closed. So instead we pulled an "audible" and got sushi instead. We sat there and talked until the restaurant closed and we were the only people left. After talking outside of the restaurant until about 1 AM we finally decided to call it a night. Andy made sure I got home and also told me he wanted to see me again! Andy: While we had originally made plans to go to get cheesesteaks, I drove past early so that I would have time to grab a drink before Sierra met me (nerves...). Then, I noticed that the cheesesteak place was closed. I panicked. I wasn’t sure if Sierra was just wanting to actually know of a good cheesesteak or if she really wanted to go on a date with me. So, I messaged her and asked to call an “audible,” and went to sushi instead. We stayed until the restaurant closed, and the stayed outside and talked until one in the morning... again. I couldn’t wait to see her again after that.
Sierra: My mom was someone who constantly told me Andy would be my husband. He bought me whale stickers, a whale planner, and whale sticky notes, before my first day as a teacher! She was sold. I think I knew Andy was my husband when he specifically told me that he wanted to make me breakfast. He said " How does hashbrowns with eggs, beans and *seasonings* sound. I thought it was really funny that he mentioned seasoning and he made it clear he wanted me to know he seasoned his food! A way to a mans heart is through his stomach but it is also a way to my heart!!! Andy: After our third date, I gave Sierra a key to my apartment. The rest, as they say, is history.
Now for those who don't know this part of the story I caught Andy looking at rings on his computer and asked him if he was going to propose in Austin. He denied it for like an hour and I didn't think anything more of it. Fast Forward to right before we were supposed to leave for Austin, I may or may not have looked in his duffle bag for a ring. ( I didn't find the ring but I did find my pearl earrings he got me for my birthday, Sorry punkin). The day after my Birthday we went to aa rooftop bar over looking Zilker park in Austin and Andy asked me to be his wife. We celebrated by going to our favorite bar in Austin and still have the bottle and cork from the bottle of wine we ordered!
