To be noted: August 2-4 is Seafair weekend, an airplane/boat show tourist attraction that is one of the largest events in Seattle for the year. We live very close to the epicenter of this event, Lake Washington. There will be war planes going over our neighborhood twice a day, including on Friday. (Not our thing, but if it is yours and you come early, you can engage with the whole affair.) As a result of this event, lodging is going quickly for the weekend, and the some of the streets around Lake Washington will be closed and/or congested during the shows. Contact us if you need assistance with lodging. Also, if you are driving while here, we highly recommend the use of a traffic updated GPS app, such as WAZE, to navigate the city. This will be useful for dealing with Seafair, but also for getting around sometimes crazy Seattle traffic. If you are using WAZE, it does use a lot of juice on your phone, so a portable battery charger, or plug in charger may be helpful.

Flight

Seattle

Seattle (SEA) is the closest and most convenient airport. Everett, about 1 hour drive, has recently opened commercial flights. Portland (PDX) is about 3 hour drive. If flying in and out of SEATAC, transport to your lodging can be done by light rail, depending upon where you are in the city, or taxi, UBER or LYFT. Ask at the airport where to find the areas where each of these options are located as they are in separate areas from each other. If you are renting a car, there is usually clear signage to the rental areas. Note: Security lines can be long at SEATAC so prepare upon your return home.

Travel Note

Ground Transportation

Uber & Lyft are very popular in Seattle. There are taxis available, but they are less common. The lightrail runs from Seatac airport through Seattle up to the University of Washington. You need to purchase a pass and tap the card to the yellow reader on your way in and out of stations. While there are no turnstiles, security will randomly verify if riders have paid. The closest stops to our house are Othello and Columbia City, and we recommend a bus or car transport from the station to our house. The lightrail does not go to West Seattle. The best lightrail stop to our neighborhood is Othello station. From there you can catch the # 50 bus, which also goes on to West Seattle (but not to the Lincoln Park area). The #7 bus runs from downtown to our neighborhood on S. Rainier. For those of you with children, here are the Washington State guidelines for car seats: https://wtsc.wa.gov/programs-priorities/seat-belts-child-restraints/

House Or Rental

AirBNB, VRBO, etc.

Info on finding lodging: Seward Park is where we live, (5133 South Brighton,98118), so you could look for a place, (mostly Airbnbs), that is walkable to our house. Also nearby is Hillman City and Columbia City, not as walkable, but a bus runs down S. Rainier Blvd. frequently. Beacon Hill is nearby if you have a car. There are really no hotels in or around our neighborhood. Some possibilities are: Low-cost to mid-range- Georgetown Inn, Silver Cloud Hotel, The Grove West Seattle Inn, New La Hacienda Motel, The Loyal Inn, Fenimore Hotel, and Aero Motel; for higher end hotels, do an internet search many options will emerge. The Gathering is being held at Lincoln Park in West Seattle. It is 20-30 minutes away from our house across the W. Seattle Bridge or through an underpass, so some form of transport will be needed on the day of the gathering to get there from the other places in the city. Please see Ground Transportation for info on our thoughts and plans on handling this.
