Garrett and I met while working as Cabin Directors for a local Christian summer camp in our town. The Lord made it very clear to me that camp was where I was supposed to be that summer, and He did the same for Garrett as well. Garrett and I had our first conversation when he roped me into being his partner in the card game the other cabin directors were playing during staff training week. I was either his target or his accomplice for the rest of the games after that. We sat together during one of the lunches, and my eyes lit up when I saw him strategically place chips on his sandwich, and I had exclaimed, "You do that too!?" and that's one of his favorite memories of us at camp. Regardless of the "no dating" rule at camp, we started going on dates on the weekends, and finding time during our busy summer of sharing the Gospel to spend 5 minutes alone from the kids to talk and get to know each other more. I started sneaking him gum wrapper origami hearts and woven bracelets I would make for him, and he started leaving handwritten notes and sugar packet trails for me at the breakfast table, and hidden in my cabin when I wasn't looking. This was the beginning of calling each other "Sugar." When we weren't together at camp, he'd be searching for four leaf clovers for me to surprise me with the next time we'd see each other. I stuck them all in the journal he gave to me the day he told me he loved me at camp. We immediately went into a long distance relationship when I moved back to California to finish my senior year of college, and Garrett flew with me to help me move in and meet my friends. He would visit as often as he could, until I graduated and was able to move back home. During spring break when I visited home, he proposed to me on March 14th, 2024, and it was the easiest "yes" of my life! We've been inseparable since, and are so excited to continue to serve the Lord together for the rest of our lives. Thank you, God, for my best friend!
