we're taking the plunge!

Athen and Garrett's love story is a classic rom com meet-cute. Thanks to Athen's sorority big sis, Rachel Leonard, Athen found herself on the field of a social kickball league as a sub upon Rachel's request when another girl on her team couldn't make it to their first spring game. Never one to miss a good time, Athen picked up her favorite beer, Shiner Bock on the way to the game. There, a fellow Texan and Shiner beer lover himself, Garrett introduced himself and then proceeded to bum a beer off Athen as they immediately bonded over living as transplant Texans in the Okie state. Athen remembers thinking Garrett had great hair, but he was a little too short for her taste, and Garrett remembers thinking Athen had great taste in beer. After a couple weeks, Athen came back to sub again, although she quickly became a permanent member after they saw her "athletic" abilities. As the team grew closer as friends, so did Athen and Garrett. After Garrett finally got the courage to invite Athen over to make her dinner, the two instantly became inseparable, and have been ever since!

When Covid-19 hit, Garrett's grand gesture plan of proposing to Athen when she crossed the finish line at the OKC Marathon became non-existent. For months, he tried to think of creative things to do, but with nowhere to go and nothing to do, he found himself stuck. Finally, in late December, he hatched the most simple, but romantic plan. Garrett & Athen were set to close on their second investment property, and to celebrate, Garrett suggested a nice dinner at their favorite restaurant. For the first time in what felt like forever, the two got dressed up and headed out for a night of celebration and great food. After dinner, Garrett suggested they go grab a cocktail somewhere downtown, and Athen fully agreed. When Garrett pulled up to Athen's old apartment in Brick Town though, she instantly knew what was happening. Athen's old apartment is very special to both of them because outside was the first place Garrett ever kissed Athen, and was also the place where Garrett told Athen he loved her for the first time. He recited some of this while getting on one knee, and through tears, and squeals, Athen immediately yelled "of course"!! The two then met up with some of their OKC besties at a local bar where there was celebratory drinks, cookies, and photos, along with facetiming many friends and family.
