Sierra and Garrett first met at freshman orientation at Wartburg College (U-rah-rah-rah!). Starting at the very beginning of the school year, they became part of the same closely-knit friend group, spending most every day together eating meals, doing homework, singing in choir, hanging out in the dorms, and going on adventures. They dated for a year as freshman/sophomores. Then they parted romantic ways (though they still spent every day together as friends, obviously). This was a formative part of their lives, as it allowed Sierra the opportunity to finally sing along to angsty heartbreak songs with the full commitment to dramatic flair that she tries to bring to her everyday life. Garrett learned how to play racquetball. During the Spring of their Junior year, they started dating again- this time, with a new level of maturity and more awkward haircuts. Thus began a new magical era where the birds sang more loudly, the sun shown more brightly, and their long walks together on the beach (or, rather, campus lawn) became more difficult to navigate, as they gazed directly into each other's eyes the whole entire time. After graduating college in 2020, they knew they couldn't say goodbye to four years of spending every day together. They moved to a small apartment together in Rochester, MN, where Garrett earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Mayo Clinic, and Sierra took some teaching classes and discovered a passion for working with kids at a bilingual preschool. On February 11th, 2023, Garrett asked Sierra to marry him by spelling out the question in a game of Bananagrams. Fast forward to now: They do still believe that they are living in some version of a Magical Era. The pigeons in DC don't sing, but do mostly stay out of their way, the sun still shines brightly- often forcing them to wake up earlier than they would like, and they have enjoyed walking on many real beaches together all around the country. In their 6 years of dating and 7.5 years of friendship, they are still waiting for their first disagreement. ("No we're NOT," says Garrett, disagreeably.) The couple truly could not be more excited to laugh with and love each other for the rest of their lives.
