NO DATING AT CAMP!

"NO DATING AT CAMP!!" (We didn't.) But we did meet at Camp Allen! In November of 2011, we were in the same group, or "family" at a high school retreat called Happening. This was my first real summer camp experience and Travis was my family guide, meaning he had attended and worked the retreat a few times before. This experience deeply changed the way I thought about life and love and leadership and we both agreed to commit to summer camp as counselors as soon as we graduated. We each spent a few weeks of our summer living in cabins with kiddos and saw each other at big camp-wide events! A year later, Travy and I applied to and served on Camp Allen Senior Staff. It was 100% packed with the best moments and memories everrrrr. This meant spending 3 whole months at our favorite place on the planet with our favorite people on the planet (more than half of our bridal party are our camp peeps....) We lifeguarded, led counselors and campers through games and growth, made one million trips to College Station on our off times, played countless crazy characters in Live Clue, and left all our stresses on the dancefloor quite often. We loved every single tiring second of it.

The Beginning!

In summer 2014, Travy and I were both a part of the leadership team as Campsite Coordinators (along with our bff/bridesmaid Audi.) This meant we got to hang year-round!! We hired the new staff, lead them in team-building, went on a backpacking trip in Arkansas, scheduled out every hour of every day all summer, and somehow led college and high school kiddos through the craziness of camp life. Trav and I often reflect on how much growth happened for us as individuals and as a team during this year. What was quite possibly the most difficult job we've both ever done was also the most powerful and transformative. We learned so, so much WITH and FROM each other that summer. We saw the absolute best and the literal worst of each other. Selflessness. Confidence. Devotion. Openness. Exhaustion. Sickness. Frustration. Realness and rawness. But so, so, so much growth. And omg what a cool and unique shared human experience. It it still so present in us both. A year later, we were both on the pathway to camp Has-Been life, and got the vibe that our time as a team wasn't over. I spent one more summer at camp and sweet Trav spent nearly the entire summer (like, did he not have any other adult things to do? still unsure....) "volunteering" AKA hanging around the campsites trying to look important/busy..... When summer was over and we were truly now Has-Beens, we got the vibe that we for suresies weren't through. We started dating about 6 months later. We traveled countless miles between San Marcos, College Station, and Orange. From Stamford, CT and Albany, NY to Lake Charles, LA. Our love traveled pretty dang far.

Gah! Forever!

On Dec. 8th, 2018 our love traveled with us to our favorite city in Texas, San Antonio! And sweet Trav asked me to spend forever with him right in front of the Alamo. (As if it weren't already something to remember!!!!!) And gah. We could not be more freaking excited to build a life together. We cannot wait to have all of our people around us as we commit to a forever together in the exact place it all began. We are so, so excited to celebrate our love, our place, our people, our forever, and our God who set it all in motion.
