We met in high school during art class! Justin was getting ready to turn 18 and get a new photo ID, because of this, he wanted to take an "artistic" approach by cutting his hair into a mullet. The day he went and to get the new ID, Maddie asked him in class, "Why did you cut your hair like that?" to which Justin responded, "Because I could." Maddie was shocked and had no response. We thought that was the end of our story. But it turns out, it was just the beginning.

Justin had planned a date for himself and Maddie at The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. The Nelson Atkins is one of Maddie's favorite places in Kansas City! After walking through the museum for about two hours, they decided to meander through the outdoor sculptures and then go to dinner after. While outside, they were sitting on a bench and enjoying the weather when Maddie noticed how full Justin's bag looked. She poked the bag and asked, "What's in here?" Justin grabbed Maddie's hand, stood up, and took her to a viewpoint that overlooks the lawn and is secluded with trees and greenery. He knew this was the moment. Turning fully to her, he grabbed both her hands and started telling her all the ways he loved her. How the past 7 years has flown by, and how he never wants to spend another day without her. Kneeling down, Justin pulls a not-so-average shaped box out of his bag, opens the lid, and proposes to Maddie. With tears in her eyes, she very quickly exclaims "YES!" After Justin popped the question, it was time to eat! They went to Union Station where Justin had planned an engagement dinner at Pierpont's. They walk in through the main dining room, where they are lead downstairs to the private rooms. After turning the corner into their private dining room, Maddie and Justin were surprised by both Maddie's parents and siblings, as well as Justin's parents and sibling. Justin had planned this all along, he managed to get Maddie's mom, dad, and sister in from Texas, and Maddie's brother in from LA. This meant the world to Maddie, and it was so special for the both of them to be able to celebrate with family immediately after sharing an incredibly important milestone together. Justin couldn't have created a more thoughtful engagement, and Maddie couldn't have dreamed of a more unforgettable engagement. We can't wait for everyone to celebrate with us! See you in Kansas City!
