When Mike started asking me if I wanted to do something special for leap day my immediate answer was 'yes.' When he suggested a nature walk near the Cities with Ethan and Emily followed by a brewery event with live music and food, it sounded like the perfect combo of some of my favorite things! But you know what they say about best-laid plans. As it turned out Emily had a prior commitment, and getting up for a nature walk after a late night of catching up is almost impossible. So we decided to take a walk in Minnehaha Park and then go on a Leap Day pub crawl, complete with live music and fried food. It turned out to be a perfect winter day for a walk, sunny and chilly but beautiful. After two laps around the park, we found a bench to sit and Mike started showing me funny memes on his phone. After showing me two or three he told me that there was one more that he had to show me, but it was so bad I had to close my eyes to prepare myself. I did, and the next thing I knew Mike was telling me to open my eyes and there he was on one knee in front of me holding an open ring box. My initial reaction was disbelief, followed by shock and lots of tears. We spent the rest of the day calling and texting family and friends the news. It may not have gone exactly how Mike had envisioned it, but we both decided it was perfect for us.
