Elle and HeeGeon met in 2016 through a language exchange in Korea. They had great chemistry and quickly became friends despite their broken conversations. Over time, their language skills developed and they could have more meaningful conversations. Eventually, HeeGeon had to enlist and serve in Korea's mandatory military service so communications went radio silent. Several months before graduating in 2019, Elle's best friend, Madi, suggested planning a trip to Korea as graduation gifts to themselves. With tickets bought, Elle decided to reach out and see if HeeGeon was still in Seoul. As soon as they reconnected, it was as if no time had passed.
During her graduation trip, HeeGeon took Elle on a date to the Han River in Seoul. On a bridge watching the sunset, he confessed his feelings and they decided to give a long distance relationship a shot. Traveling back and forth between the two countries became their normal and the rest became history.
The days were coming short before Elle had to leave to go back to America. So, they decided to go on a date to a summer festival--what turned out to be the biggest festival in Korea since COVID. After spending the evening eating street food and watching a water show off the Banpo bridge, HeeGeon took Elle away from the crowd and walked her along the Han River overlooking the skyline--similar to the day he confessed. There, he got on one knee and proposed. . . and Elle said yes!
