Arthur's Seat is the volcanic hill overlooking Edinburgh. Although the exact origins of the name are unknown, some believe it is connected to the myths of King Arthur! Arthur's seat is a beautiful moderate hike that can easily be accessed from the park surrounding Holyrood Palace at the bottom of the Royal Mile! It offers incredible views of the city and is well worth the trek!
This is a beautiful museum full of incredible exhibits across a variety of fields, many of which highlight the shocking number of inventions that originate in Scotland, including the telephone, steam engine, refrigerator, and penicillin! Best of all, entry is free!
This museum is a must see for all those interested in medicine (and we know there will be many of you)! Edinburgh was once a hub for medical study and advancement, and this museum does an amazing job of taking you through that rich history! Be prepared for cool interactive exhibits, fascinating stories, and a remarkable collection of specimens and artifacts!
Towering over the city at the top of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle is a must-see historical location with a rich past and stunning views!
We highly recommend taking a day trip up to the Highlands if you can! The scenery and history are incredible, and there are plenty of amazing tour companies (we recommend Rabbie's) that will show you all the best places, from the Harry Potter train bridge to Obie's namesake, Oban Distillery! If you're lucky, you may even spot Nessie!
High tea at the Scotsman is a real treat, and a great opportunity to enjoy the splendor of this gorgeous hotel! Bear in mind reservations tend to fill up fast especially on the weekends so plan ahead
While this is definitely a touristy activity, they actually do a great job of teaching guests all about scotch whisky! The experience comes with a generous tasting and is a great starting point for those interested in enjoying lots of new scotch or planning some distillery visits!
Calton Hill is a perfect mix of bustling hot spots and quiet residential streets. The hill itself, with its incredible city views is home to the Collective contemporary art gallery as well as the unfinished National Monument. Nearby, gay bars and casual dining cluster around the top of Leith Walk, where the Edinburgh Playhouse stages musicals and comedy!
Makar's is a mashed potato bar right in old town, serving some of the best mashed potato dishes we've ever had! While it's definitely a novelty experience, it's one that's actually worth it!
The Highland Games isn't one event, there's actually many events all over the highlands! The last few games usually happen in early to mid-September, so if you're planning on exploring the country before or after the wedding, check it out - it's sure to be an experience you'll never forget!
