We're Getting Married!

Sponsered by Tinder

If you've ever heard either of us talk about our relationship, there's one theme that breaks through: "when you know, you know." As cheesy as it is, it's the truth. From our first date (where we talked for so long that we got kicked out of the bar), we knew we had found something special. Since that day, we have never stopped talking and don't plan to -- even after they bury us (hello, haunting!). We've travelled many miles together and have grown so much as people through the years, so we're excited to celebrate our love in the city where it started!

Our First Date

two chatty cathys

To prelude, it took a while after we matched on Tinder for us to actually meet in person. Ross swiped first, Gabi fell in love with his long hair (we'll get to that later), and Ross sent a funny message to kick things off. Gabi almost immediately gave her number AND Snapchat (which she had never done before, but something felt different, and she wanted NO excuses for no further communication). However, her worst nightmare came true: he didn't respond... no new Snapchat friend... no new text message... he must have said, "actually, no thanks!" so Gabi had to move on. However, on Ross's side, he never received her message.... no Snapchat.... no phone number, she must have said: "actually, no thanks!" So Ross did what any reasonable person would do—he blamed it on his long hair and immediately scheduled a haircut. After the Tinder glitch figured itself out, Ross texted Gabi a picture of Izzy as an apology, but Gabi had a busy weekend, so she sent her own picture of Hazelnut as an apology for taking a few days to respond. After a few days of learning more about each other's sense of humor, music taste, and our soul dogs, Ross asked to schedule a date. Did we mention Gabi was busy? She had been working until midnight at the Texas House of Representatives and then recovering on any off days. So after two tries, Ross said hmmm actually Gabi needs to plan it on her own, or else I'll come off needy. From Gabi's perspective, Ross had updated his Tinder profile AFTER planning dates, he must be talking to other people and not interested anymore -- also HE CUT HIS HAIR?? FOR WHO?? Eventually, Gabi gave in and asked to hang out later, and guess what? We hung out later. :-) Ross picked a bar named "The Dive Bar," thinking it would be the perfect vibe. We both got ready -- Gabi took a tequila shot with Saoirse, and Ross smooth-talked his near 20-year-old car into running with no issues for us. Ross showed up to the bar first (Gabi running late? No way!) to find out it was actually permanently closed...so Ross suggested going to Dirty 6th to find a bar where we could "talk"...is it obvious he's not from Austin? After some advice from a true Texan (and someone who had been to Dirty 6th before), Ross decides it's best to pick Gabi up and head to a bar at the Domain. As soon as Gabi opened the door, all worries went away! We went to Brass Tap (unfortunately, closed now) and talked, and talked, and talked. We were asked to join the audience of a stand-up comedy routine inside at 11 pm. We looked at the time, and it was 10 pm, so we said sure! Next thing we knew, it was last call, and we looked at the time, and it was almost 2 am...Talk about time moving fast when you're having fun!
