Hotel
The Marriott in Santa Marta is our number one choice for guests to stay at. Not only is it absolutely beautiful but it has great amenities. It includes spacious rooms with a balcony, two restaurants onsite, a lovely bar, a large outdoor swimming pool, access to the beach with chairs and umbrellas, and a spa. The Marriott has staff onsite that speak English and make you feel welcomed! Prices fluctuate and we do not have a hotel block so we suggest making a reservation as soon as possible.
Hotel
Located just down the beach from the Marriott hotel is the beautiful Zuana Beach Resort. This resort is full of amenities and a different feel than the Marriott. This is a popular resort among Colombians and you really get the the vibe of being in Santa Marta! It includes rooms that can sleep anywhere from 2-8 people. So if you’re traveling with family or friends and want to share a room Zuana is a good option for you. It has numerous pools and hot tubs throughout the resort including a beautiful infinity pool. They have beach access, restaurants onsite, A BOWLING ALLEY indoors with an arcade, live entertainment, a beautiful spa, and a market onsite to grab food, drinks and other necessities while staying. We are unsure of how much english the staff speaks at Zuana as we did not have the chance to stay last time we were in Santa Marta but we are guessing every resort must have staff onsite that speak english.
Flight
We suggest flying into the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport located in Barranquilla, Colombia. This is about an hour and a half drive from Santa Marta. Barranquilla airport has the most affordable and wide variety of airlines that come through the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Once you land you can hop straight into your private transfer and head to Santa Marta. (See below for car transfer)
Flight
The Simon Bolivar International Airport is located directly in Santa Marta but its very small and much more expensive to fly into. It doesn’t have many flight options and can sometimes have longer layovers in Colombia. If you do fly into this airport you can book a private car or take a taxi to your Hotel.

We suggest setting up a shuttle or private car from the Barranquilla airport to your hotel in Santa Marta. Maydaytrip.com is safe, reliable, affordable and easy to set up. Its has a lot of positive reviews on TripAdvisor.com that you can check out. We would like to try to coordinate couples and families to take shuttles together depending on your flight information. Once you have purchased your flight, pass your information along to us and we can try to set you up with travel buddies. You can use Mydaytrip to set up your ride back to the airport and also for any day trips you would like to take during your free time in Colombia!
Travel Note
We suggest using the app Hopper to figure out the best time to purchase your airline tickets. Hopper tells you the when to wait, when to purchase, how much money you can save, and when prices are about to rise. If you don’t want to use Hopper we suggest keeping an eye on flights this summer into the fall for the best prices.
