Graduating from college in 2010, Lisa from the Naval Academy and Charlie from Rochester Institute of Technology, both commissioned as Officers in the Navy. Over the course of the next seven years, they travelled the world in parallel, not crossing each other’s path, but taking in similar experiences and living life to the fullest. Following years of deployments, living overseas, and earning their graduate degrees, they both found themselves back in Newport for Surface Warfare Officer Department Head School. (For those reading that are non-Navy, it’s a required school to advance professionally.) School began in the Fall of 2017, but the two barely interacted. To Lisa, Charlie was the appreciated nerd who sat in the back of class and made study guides; to Charlie, Lisa was just a firecracker who always sat in the front row. By March, the two knew each other’s names. On March 12, 2018, a blizzard was on its way up the coast. Before class was even cancelled, Lisa packed her bags and extended an open invite to anyone interested in a day of snowboarding or skiing on Loon Mountain. Lisa’s friend Ellie was up to the adventure and Charlie, a new snowboarding enthusiast, was a quick yes. With school still not cancelled as of about 7pm, they took their first leap of faith and hit the road to hit the slopes. The rest is history. A little over three years and three deployments later, Lisa and Charlie returned to Lincoln, NH and rode the Loon Mountain gondola to the peak. Nervous as can be, Charlie waited for the perfect opportunity to propose, with Lisa’s favorite view as the backdrop. It was a beautiful moment the two of them will remember forever. The Loon Mountain Gondola has played a significant role of transition in Lisa’s and Charlie’s relationship. From going up single and coming down dating, to going up dating and coming down engaged. We are very excited for you to take part in the next transition: going up engaged and coming down MARRIED!
