Things To Do

All of the Smithsonian museums in the DC area are free and open year-round (unless the government is shut down). DC also has great food options so it's hard to go wrong just wandering around! Below are a few of our favorite places to visit and eat.

National Portrait Gallery

8th St NW and G St NW, Washington, DC 20001

This is our favorite Smithsonian museum - it has great art exhibits including all of the presidential portraits.

Zaytinya

701 9th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001

José Andrés' Mediterranean restaurant, near the Portrait Gallery. This is our favorite restaurant and where we had dinner the night Cooper proposed.

United States National Arboretum

3501 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

We love walking around the Arboretum, there is also a very cool bonsai museum. This is where Cooper proposed!

Smithsonian National Zoological Park

3001 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20008

The national zoo! Come early in the day if you want to see the pandas. Just like all the federal museums in DC, it's free.

Zinnia

9201 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910

In Silver Spring, great brunch and dinner options.

Falafel Inc

1140 Maine Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC 20024

Our favorite cheap and delicious option, there are multiple locations throughout DC. This spot is near our first apartment in the city and near the National Mall, the Wharf, and several museums.

For all the days along the way
