Laura and Scott met at El Centro, a bar/restaurant in DC, after a mutual friend invited them out one Friday evening in February 2016. Even though it was already getting late, both of them decided to go out and take her up on the opportunity to meet new people in the city. After Laura tried to teach him how to salsa (she does not, in fact, know how to salsa...) Laura and Scott got to talking, and after an anxious week of waiting, Scott finally asked Laura on a date.
In June 2020, Scott and Laura wanted to support local businesses during the pandemic. Scott said he was finally going to order some items from one of their favorite wine bars, Cork, which happens to be a couple buildings down from El Centro where they met. Laura probably should have known something was strange when he was ordering practically everything on the menu and got frozen cocktails in the middle of a work day, but she went along with it. They walked up to pick up their haul, but first Scott said he wanted to "look at El Centro". Laura, being difficult, responded "Why?... It's closed". But luckily Scott was able to convince her to walk the extra 30 feet, where he got on one knee and proposed. He was only a little concerned when Laura was so in shock she could only say "Wait, what!?" for the first 10 seconds, but then of course she said "yes!"
