SHANNON: I was dragged to a music industry mixer one Tuesday evening all the way in Santa Monica (!), even though I had tickets to a Lucius show later that night. I was promised shuffleboard & beer, and since I was still fairly new to the LA music scene, I figured I'd better suck it up and go to both. Little did I know I was about to meet a loud, green-eyed weirdo who would make me laugh for the rest of my life. FRANK: I was standing at the bar trying to quickly dry up the entire glass of water that I just knocked over when I heard someone laughing from across the room. This wasn't a normal laugh, this was the laugh of all laughs. It was calling to me like a siren song to a lonely pirate in the dead of night. I quickly turned to identify this person, and realized that this was someone I had never seen before. I asked the guy I was with if he knew who she was, but before he could even finish his response I was standing in front of her, butting right into her conversation. "Hi my name's, Frank, I bet you can't touch your pointer fingers together over your head while your eyes are closed." She swooned. SHANNON: He was cute, he was funny, but he was wearing an Alabama shirt....I was skeptical. When it was time to head to my concert, he didn't ask for my number, so I thought I was imaging the flirting and just thought it was his loss. Then I got a facebook message the next day and I immediately asked Kayla for every detail she knew about this Frank character from the night before. Her response, "Aww..Frank! He's awesome....WHY?????" She was a trusted source, so I said yes to his request for a drink together.
FRANK: First date, I ask her for a drink at some restaurant I've never been to before. During that drink we started talking about the movie Blood Sport and she corrected me on the actor's name who played the villain. "Bolo" she said. I told her she was wrong, she was not. Obviously I then asked if we could continue the date, so we went and got dinner for part two! SHANNON: He was very impressed with my JCVD knowledge (thanks, Uncle Doug) and I was impressed by the way he handled my correcting him. However, I think the very best part of the date was about 15 minutes in when he said in his no-nonsense Frank tone, "By the way, this is a date. This is not a work thing." He wasn't playing games and it was so refreshing, and really cute! It was pretty easy to fall for him.
SHANNON: He was SO excited about going to the zoo. Granted, he's always been excited to go since I bought him the membership 2 years before, but this time he was REALLY wound up about it. He started rushing us in to get pictures of the animals but then all of the sudden wanted to take a detour to go to an overlook by the birds. Ok...we're in a rush to see the lions awake, but now we're taking a detour. It's fine, you lead the way, crazy. FRANK: I'm rushing her through the zoo to "the spot" because the zoo is way more crowded than expected. All I can think is how there will be a bunch of people around and screaming kids and this magical moment I have in my head will be lost. We get up to the planned spot and it's empty! It's go time! I start rambling on about how lucky she is to have grown up in this world and how I felt like since she has been going to and so connected to zoos her whole life, that this had to be the place. I got down on my knee and think I might have proposed, I just can't remember if I ever actually asked her to marry me. But regardless, she said yes. SHANNON: I thought he was saying it was a good spot to give me a kiss, and then all of a sudden he was on one knee with a gorgeous ring in his hand. I have no idea what he said, I have no idea what I said....I just remember saying "YES" and "Can I touch it?" to the ring. It was perfect.
