How We Met

The Interview

In the fall of 2013, Zac interviewed for a marketing position at an ad agency in Phoenix where Kate happened to work. As part of the hiring committee, Kate was responsible for evaluating Zac’s background, and ultimately, voted to hire Zac (thankfully for him, in more ways than one). Over the months that followed, Kate and Zac began working together on different projects, building appreciation for each other for their strong work ethic and outgoing personalities. Wanting to spend more time with Kate, Zac was always very eager to help support her projects in any way he could. Eventually, Zac invited Kate out to dinner to talk about “work,” although his intentions were anything but. Their dinner at Windsor evolved into drinks at Rokerij, getting to know each other better by the fireplace (can it get any more romantic than that). Zac and Kate would ultimately share many more wonderful experiences together in the coming years.

The Proposal

6.17.18

By the end of 2017, Kate and Zac had been dating for a few years and were now living together - and Zac knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Kate. Knowing they were planning a summer trip to Paris in 2018, Zac thought it would be an opportune time to propose. On the first full day of their Paris vacation, Kate and Zac began their sightseeing day by visiting Sacré-Cœur, a basilica built in 1914 upon butte Montmarte, the highest point in the city. Zac figured the dome would be an opportune place to propose, due to the expansive views of Paris, as well as the overall beauty of the church and surrounding gardens. Kate and Zac arrived extremely early, on Zac’s insistence, to limit the amount of tourists, however, when they first arrived, the dome was not open yet to climb. Quietly panicking, and thinking of how to alter his plans, they took a seemingly-aimless walk through the gardens, while Zac thought of alternative spots to propose. After resolving that his original plan was at a loss, Zac thought to try the dome entrance one last time, and to his relief, had opened just minutes before. With his plan back on track, Zac led Kate to traverse the 300 steps to the top of the dome, where they were virtually alone. After spending a minute or so admiring the view of the city, Zac pulled Kate aside, took a knee, and popped the question.
