Bellingham

Bellingham, WA

Good craft beer, at least one craft distillery, fun shopping in Fairhaven, and great views.

Whatcom Falls Park

Whatcom Falls Park

1401 Electric Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98229
, (360) 778-7000

Lovely and easily accessible hidden gem, a product of Works Progress Administration funding in the 1930s. About 10 minutes from downtown Bellingham.

Birch Bay

Birch Bay

We live here! Birch Bay State Park is beautiful, and the surrounding town is a great place for a day trip. Seafood, sushi (Skai Sushi) and beer (Beach Cat Brewing) are all available.

Blaine

Blaine

Eat oysters and down some pints at the Drayton Harbor Oyster Company (a must -- they grow their oysters less than a mile away), then pull a Homer Simpson and dance back and forth over the US-Canadian border at Peace Arch State Park.

Mount Baker

Mount Baker

Play on a volcano: go for a hike on Mt. Baker. Located about an hour east of Bellingham, Mt. Baker has ample trails, and August is wildflower season. Be smart, be safe, go prepared. If you prefer to keep your distance, there are fabulous views of Mt. Baker to be had from Birch Bay and Blaine.

Put on your thinking touque and check border restrictions related to COVID-19, but if you haven't visited our friends north of the border in a minute, consider a jaunt to Stanley Park or Granville Island in Vancouver, or you can do Sarah's favorite thing and go pig out on Indian food and sweets, starting at Main Street and E. 49th Avenue in south Vancouver. When you get to the border, tell them Foster sent you.
