We HIGHLY recommend exploring the towns of Oia and Fira on Friday morning (July 10th) before the wedding festivities. Oia (pronounced EE-ya) is the colorful village perched on the cliffs of Santorini's volcanic caldera that you picture when you first think of Greece. Oia today is famous for sunset viewing from the ruins of Oia's Byzantine castle, probably the most famous spot on Santorini. Fira is the capital of Santorini. Fira is packed with restaurants for every taste and budget. The main square is a kind of an open-air food court with lots of inexpensive takeaway places and cafes.
One of our favorite wineries on the island. We did a tasting of 6 wines, each paired with a variety of cheeses and traditional food items to accompany each tasting. The wines are amazing and the views are even better.
Local beach lined with bars and restaurants. Most of the restaurants have free sunbeds & umbrellas. You can walk a short distance to Red Beach from here and from there can take a boat to the White Beach as well. Have a relaxing, lazy day!
This is about a 2 and a half hour trail walking time, but takes about 4-5 hours if you take in the panoramic views as you go. We suggest leaving at about 6am or 7am if you choose to do this as the weather gets very hot later on. Best thing to do is to hike from Fira to Oia and take the bus back afterwards.
One of our favorite things to do in Santorini! Don't leave Santorini without experiencing a beautiful boat tour! We recommend a sunset sailing tour on a catamaran. You'll be able to enjoy the amazing sights of the Hot springs, Caldera, Red& White beaches. Swim and snorkel in the crystal deep blue water. Enjoy a lunch on board with unlimited drinks and enjoy the famous Santorini sunset.
One of the most beautiful places to see the Santorini sunset is in Oia. We recommend heading over around 5PM. Warning though - it gets very busy and crowded. In our opinion though, the sunset is BEAUTIFUL anywhere on the island. Another beautiful location to see the sunset especially without the crowds is Imerovigli.
Here's a few of our favorite places: CASUAL: 1) Lucky’s Souvlakis - Hands down the best gyros and souvlaki in Fira 2) PitoGyros Traditional Grill House - The best gyros and souvlaki in Oia 3) FalafeLAND - delicious traditional falafel wraps SIT DOWN: 1.
