Although we met very close to Christmas ‘16, and had planned to meet up after the holidays, we were both too excited to wait to get together, and decided to meet the day before Christmas Eve, after I had worked a late shift at work. After our first date, I knew that Dylan was the one, and even told my mom “Yep, I’m gonna marry him!” after only a month of dating. A few days after Christmas, Dylan asked me to be his girlfriend - the best belated gift I could ask for! Fast forward to April ‘18, Dylan and I had planned to take a trip to Colorado, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go and somewhere he had lived and wanted to visit again. After talking casually about our future the last year and a half, we both knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, but Dylan led me to believe that he just couldn’t afford a wedding and needed to wait until he was done with school (which i was perfectly okay with) so I never saw this trip as an opportunity for a possible engagement. We had planned on taking a hike in the Rocky Mountains one of our days there, but after taking a couple steps on the trail Dylan slipped, fell on ice and cut his knee open and started to bleed! We decided to just drive up as far to the top of the Mountains as we could go, and where we stopped was a very pretty scenic overview with a walkway alongside the edge. He stopped me and said “I love you very much, and I never want to stop having adventures with you like this...” and got down on one knee. I was in complete and utter disbelief, and instantly started crying (never thought I would be so cliché!) but the first thing that came out of my mouth was “Oh my God. No, no, no! Are you joking?!” 😂 I had him nervous for a second, but once I got over the initial shock that I had been proposed to by the love of my life, in one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever seen, I said yes ;)
Lindsey and I met online during the Christmas season of 2016. After wooing her with my witty flirtatious banter, we agreed on a first date sometime after the new year. I was so excited that I literally could not wait that long, so the day before I went to my family Christmas I asked her if she wanted to meet up after she got off work for a drink. I knew I had to make a good impression, I mean this is a first date after all and location definitely matters, so we met at the luxurious Kelly’s Bar in downtown Grand Forks for a night of drinks and laughs and I was wrapped around her finger ever since. I knew from that night that I was going to marry this girl. Fast-forward a year: I decide that it was time to propose. I bought the ring and created a masterful plan. Lindsey and I had been planning a trip to Colorado, and I knew it was the perfect place to do it. I had been spewing some bologna for weeks about how I was “too broke” to get married any time soon, or “wayyyy too stressed from school” to even begin thinking about it to throw her off my trail, so I believe she was genuinely clueless. We get to Colorado in April. My plan was to go on a beautiful scenic hike to the top of a mountain and propose there, but about 5 steps into the trail I completely biffed it on the ice and bloodied up my knee, so that was out the window. Instead, we drove up as high as we possibly could, pulled over on a breathtaking scenic overlook and walked out to the ledge. I said “there’s something I wanna say. I love you so much and I never wanna stop having adventures with you” I got down on one knee, asked her to marry me, and to my horror was hit with “No. No no no oh my gosh. Is this a joke?!” After briefly realizing that I am way too goofy in life to expect anyone to actually take me seriously, I assured her that I genuinely wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. With tears in her eyes, she said “YES” and now we are well on our journey to planning our life together.
